Yarn: 1 skein of Scheepjes Whirl från Favoritgarner. The shawl in the photo is made in colour 770.
Hook: 3 – 4 mm. I have used hook 3,5..
Size: 119 x 84 x 84 cm

Tips
- The shawl works up from the bottom up.
- It is worked in rows back and forth.
- The initial tr in each row acts as ch 2.
Start:
Ch 4, join to initial ch 1 with a ss.
Row 1:
Tr, ch 3, tr in the ring.
Row 2
2 tr in tr, ch 2, 5 tr in ch3-sp, ch 2, 2 tr in tr.
Row 3
2 tr in the first tr, ch 2, skip tr + ch2-sp, 1 dc in each of the following 5 tr, ch 2, skip ch2-sp + tr, 2 tr in the last tr.
Row 4
2 tr in the first tr, ch 2, tr + ch 2 + tr in ch2-sp, ch 2, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each of the following 3 dc, ch 2, tr + ch 2 + tr in ch2-sp, ch 2, 2 tr in the last tr.
Row 5
2 tr in the first tr, ch 2, skip tr + ch2-sp, 5 tr in ch2-sp between 2 tr, ch 2, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip 1 dc + ch2-sp, 5 tr in ch2-sp between 2 tr, ch 2, skip ch2-sp + tr, 2 tr in the last tr.

Row 6
2 tr in the first tr, ch 2, skip tr + ch2-sp, 1 dc in each of the following 5 tr, ch 2, skip ch2-sp + dc + ch2-sp, 1 dc in each of the following 5 tr, ch 2, skip ch2-sp + tr, 2 tr in the last tr.
Repeat row 4 – 6, but with more repetitions of the pattern on each row, until you reach the size you want. I have repeated row 4 – 6, 31 times. Fasten off.

Edging: (is made from the right side)
Row 1
I pulled out a new shade from my Whirl for the edging. Start in the top right corner.
1 dc in each of the two tr (start with a standing dc, or ss + ch 1), 2 dc in ch-sp, *1 dc in the back loop in each of the following 5 dc, 2 dc in ch-sp, repeat * to the end of this length and make 1 dc in each of the last two tr.
Next length *ch 5, 1 tr in the 4th ch from hook, 1 tr in the 5th ch from hook (= a bow), skip 1 tr on the side of the shawl, 1dc in next tr, repeat * to the end of this length, after your last dc in tr, make 5 tr in the ch4-ring , dc in the first tr on next length, ** ch 5, 1 tr in the 4th ch from hook, 1 tr in th 5th ch from hook, skip 1 tr on the side of the shawl, dc in next tr, repeat ** to the end of this length, but the last time there will not be a dc in tr. Join to initial dc with a ss. Fasten off.
Row 2 (also made from the right side)
Pull out a new shade from your Whirl.
Standing dc in the first bow on row 1 (or ss + ch 1), *ch 2, fptr in dc, ch 2, dc in the top of the next bow, repeat* to the end of this length, ch 2, fptr in the last dc, ch 2, skip 2 tr, tr + ch 3 + tr in next tr, ch 2, skip 2 tr, fptr in dc, ch 2, dc in the top of the next bow, **ch 2, fptr in dc, ch 2 , dc in the top of the next bow, repeat **to the end of this length. Fasten off.
Weave in all the ends. Block for best result. Make tassels if you like those!
