Winter Flower Mandala – English

Yarn: Scheepjes Cahlista from Favoritgarner
1 skein of each of the following colours: 501, 516 och 517
Nr 110  (2 skeins if you crochet tight, 3 skeins if you crochet loose)
Scheepjes Lizzy silver thread

Spring flower Mandala: 106 Snow White, 385 Chrystalline, 222 Tulip, 522 Primrose, 238 Powder Pink, 392 Lime Juice, 512 Lime
For the last row, Catona (25 g ) 238 Powder Pink

Hook: 4,5   3,0 for the last row

UK terms used:
ch – chain
st – stitch
dc – double crochet
ss – slip stitch
tr – treble crochet
htr – half treble crochet
dtr – double treble crochet
picot – ch 3, ss in the third st from hook
ch-sp – chain space
tr2tog – 2 treble crochet together. Yarn over, insert hook in next st, pull the yarn through 2 loops, yarn over, insert the hook in next st, pull the yarn through 2 loops, yarn over and pull the yarn through all remaining loops.

Finished size: 56 cm across

Colourchange: Start the new round by making a standing tr, or, ss and ch 3. If it is a dtr, make a standing dtr or ss and ch 4. If it is a dc, make a standing dc or ss and ch 1.

The following photos showing rounds 1 – 19, is my Spring Flower  version of this mandala. It is not finished yet, but when it is, I will give you more details about the colours I have used.

Round 2

3 tr (= tr-group) between every second tr,  ch 2 between every tr-group. Join to initial tr with a ss. Fasten off.

Round 3

*Tr + ch 1 + tr in ch2-sp, skip tr, tr + ch 1 + tr  in next  tr, skip tr,  repeat * around and join to initial tr with a ss. Fasten off.

Round 4

*5 tr in ch-sp,  dc between  two tr , repeat * around and join to initial tr with a ss. You now have 12 groups of 5 tr. Fasten off.

Round 5

This round is worked in the back loop only.
*Dtr in dc, tr, htr,  dc, htr, tr, repeat* around and join to initial dtr with a ss. Fasten off.

Round 6

*3 tr in a dtr, ch 1, skip 2 st, 3 tr in dc, ch 1, skip 2 st, repeat * around and join to initial tr with a ss.  Fasten off. You now have 24 groups of 3 tr.

Round 7

*Tr + ch 1 + tr (=  a ”v”) in ch-sp,  ch 1,* repeat  *around and join to initial tr with a ss. Fasten off. You now have 24 V.

Round 8

*5 tr in ch-sp in a V,  dc in ch-sp before next V,  repeat* around and join to initial tr with a ss. Fasten off. Your mandala might look a bit wavy at his point but the following rounds will make it more flat again.

Round 9

This round is worked in the back loop only.
* Dc in the third tr in  a group of 5 tr, htr, tr2tog  in the last tr in the group and in the first tr in next group (skip the dc), htr, repeat* around and join to initial dc with a ss.

Round 10

Tr in every st around, join to initial tr with a ss. You now have 96 tr. Fasten off.

Round 11

3 tr in every second st around, join to initial tr with a ss. You now have  48  3tr-groups. Fasten off.

Round 12

Tr + ch 1 + tr (= a ”V”) between every 3tr-group and with ch 1 between  every ”V”, join to initial tr with a ss. Fasten off. You now have  48  ”V”.

Round 13

*5 tr in ch-sp in a ”V”, dc in next ch-sp in a ”V”,  repeat * around and join to initial tr with a ss. Fasten off.  You now have 24  5tr-groups with a dc between every group.

Varv 24
This round is worked in the back loop only.
1 dc in each st. Fasten off. Weave in all the ends.

Dc in back loop, *ch 2, ss in front loop on round 23 (one st to the left), ch 2, skip one st on round 24, dc + picot + dc in the back loop of next st, repeat * around but the last time, join to initial dc after picot (in the same st as your first dc).
