Lysithea Mandala UK terms

Yarn:  Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat in different colours (totally 40 g for one mandala) from  Favoritgarner.
Hook: 2,0 mm
Size: 34 cm across when it is blocked.

UK terms used:
st – stitch
ch – chain
ss – slipstitch
dc – double crochet
ldc – long double crochet   You make this the same way as a dc, except it will be worked into a round two rounds back, instead of previous round, keep your yarn loose.
htr – half treble crochet
tr – treble crochet
dtr – double treble crochet
ch-sp – chain space
bpdc – back post double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
fpdtr – front post double treble crochet
fpttr – front post triple treble crochet
tr3tog – 3 treble crochet together. Yarn over, pull the yarn through 2 loops, yarn over, pull the yarn throgh 2 loops, yarn over and pull the yarn through 2 loops, yarn over and pull the yarn through all 4 loops on hook.
fpdtr2tog – 2 front post double treble crochet together
dtr2tog – 2 double treble crochet together
dtr3tog – 3 double treble crochet together

puff – puff stitch      Yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull loop through st and make loop same height as previous sts in working row, (yo, insert hook in same st, yo, pull loop through st and make loop same height as working row) twice, yo, repeat until you have 11 loops on hook, pull through all 11 loops on hook.

Ch 4, ss in initial ch 1.

Round 1
Ch 3, 11 tr in the ring, ss in initial ch 3.

Round 2
This round is worked in the front loop only.
Ss in next tr, ch 3 (acts as tr) + 4 tr in the same st as ss, dc in next st, *5 tr in next st, dc in next st, repeat * around and join to initial tr with a ss. You now have 6 petals, 5 tr in each and with 1 dc in between. Fasten off.

Round 3
5 dtr in the back loop where a dc is made in the front loop,* 1 bpdc in the third tr in a group of five (photo 3), 5 dtr in the back loop in the next st where a dc is made in the front loop,  repeat* around, but the last time you will make a bpdc in the third tr and then join to initial dtr with a ss. You now have 6 groups of dtr and 6 bpdc. Fasten off. Photo 4. The initial dtr can be made as a standing one, or ss + ch 4.

*Fpdc in bpdc, 1 dc in the back loop of each of the following  5 dtr, repeat * around and join to initial fpdc with a ss. You now have 30 dc and 6 fpdc. Photo 5.  The initial fpdc is made as a standing one, or if you prefer, you can start with a ss + ch 1 in the back loop of the first dtr and repeat the pattern from there, but then you will have to join to initial ch 1 with a ss after your last fpdc.

Round 5
Ch 5 + tr in the same st,*ch 3, skip 2 st, dc in next st, ch 3, skip 2 st, tr + ch 2 + tr in next fpdc, repeat *around, ch 3, skip 2 st, dc in next st, ch 3, ss in initial ch 3. Fasten off. You now have  12 tr, six ch2-sp, 6 dc and 12 ch3-sp. Photo 6.

Round 6
*3 tr in ch2-sp, ch 4, dc + ch 4 + dc in dc, ch 4, repeat * around and join to initial tr with a ss. Fasten off. You now have six groups of 3 tr, six ch4-sp between two dc, and 12 other ch4-sp. Photo 7. The initial tr can be made as a standing one or ss + ch 3. 

Round 7
*7 tr in ch4-sp between two dc, dc in next ch4-sp, ch 2, tr in tr, ch 1, tr in next tr, ch 1, tr in next tr, ch 2, dc in next ch4-sp, repeat *around and join to initial tr with a ss. Fasten off. You now have 6 groups of 7 tr, 6 groups of 3 tr with ch 1 between every tr, 12 dc and 12 ch2-sp. Photo 8. The initial tr can be made as a standing one or ss + ch 3.

Round 9
Ss in ch3-sp, *tr3tog + ch 3 + tr3tog in ch3-sp, ch 3, dc in ch2-sp, ch 3, skip tr, tr + ch 1 + tr in next tr, skip tr, tr + ch 1 + tr in next tr, skip tr, tr + ch 1 + tr in next tr, ch 3, dc in ch2-sp, ch 3, repeat * around and join to initial tr3tog with a ss. Fasten off. Photo 11.

Round 10
* tr3tog + ch 3 + tr3tog in ch3-sp between two tr3tog (photo 12), ch 2, tr in ch3-sp, tr in next ch3-sp, ch 2, skip tr, tr + ch 1 + tr in ch1-sp, tr + ch 1 + tr in next ch1-sp, tr + ch 1 + tr in next ch1-sp, ch 2, tr in ch3-sp, tr in next ch3-sp, ch 2, repeat * around and join to initial tr3tog with a ss. *3 tr in first ch2-sp after dtr2tog (photo 17), 3 tr in next ch2-sp, ch 3, dc in ch4-sp, 8 dtr in fpttr, dc in next ch4-sp, ch 3, 3 tr in ch3-sp, ch 3, dc in ch4-sp, 8 dtr in fpttr, dc in next ch4-sp, ch 3, repeat * around and join to initial tr with a ss.  Fasten off. Photo 18. The initial tr can be made as a standing one or ss + ch 3. 

Round 13
*1 dc  in the back loop of each of the following three tr in ch3-sp (photo 19), ch 2, 1 htr in the space between the first and the second dtr, 1 htr between all the following dtr (totally 7 htr with the first one included, photo 20) ch 2, 1 htr in the back loop of each of the following 3 tr (photo 21), ch 2, 1 htr in the space between the first and the second dtr, 1 htr between all the following dtr (totally 7 htr with the first one included ) ch 2, repeat * around and join to initial dc with a ss.

At this point the mandala might be looking a bit wavy, but it will get flat again after some more rows have  been made. The initial dc can be made as a standing one or ss + ch 1. Photo 22.

Round 15
Ch 3 (acts as first tr) *2 tr in ch-sp, tr in next tr, skip 1 ch-sp, tr in next tr, repeat * around but the last time you join to initial tr with a ss, right after skip 1 ch-sp. Fasten off. You now have 42 groups of four tr. Photo 25.

Round 16
*1 htr in the second tr and 1 htr  in the third tr in a group of four, 2 ldc in ch2-sp from round 14 (photo 26), repeat * around and join to initial htr with a ss. The initial htr can be made as a standing one or ss + ch 2. Fasten off. Photo 27.

Round 17
*2 tr in the first of two htr, 2 tr in next htr, ch 1, skip 2 ldc, repeat* around and join to initial tr with a ss. Fasten off. Photo 28. The initial tr can be made as a standing one or ss + ch 3.

Round 19

Round 20
*Fpttr in dc from round 18, ch 2, puff stitch between the two pairs of tr, ch 2, repeat * around and join to initial fpttr with a ss. You now have 42 puff stitches and 42 fpttr. The initial fpttr is a standing one. Photo 31.

Round 21
Dtr3tog + ch 5 + dtr3tog in fpttr, *dtr3tog + ch 5 + dtr3tog in fpttr i next fpttr, repeat * around and join to initial dtr3tog with a ss. The initial dtr is made by ch 4. Photo 32.

The initial fpdtr is a standing one, or if you prefer, start with the 5 dtr and make the first one with ss + ch 4, but if you do you will join to initial dtr right after your last fpdtr. Photo 35.

Round 24
*Dc in the first of five 5 dtr, ch 4, skip 1 dtr, dc in next dtr, ch 4, skip 1 dtr, dc in next dtr, 1 dc i each of the following two fpdtr, repeat * around and join to initial dc with a ss. The initial dc can be made as a standing one or ss + ch 1. Photo 36.
