Yarn: 1 skein of  Scheepjes Whirl

Hook: 4,0

Size: width 47 cm, length 142 cm

 

UK terminology used

Ch – chain

Dc – double crochet

Tr – treble crochet

Ss – slip stitch

 

 

Pattern 1

Chain 100

Row 1

Dc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in the following ch 3* ch 5,  skip ch 3, dc in the following ch 5. Repeat* to the last stitch, but the row ends with 4 dc. You now have 12 ch-5 spaces with 5 dc in between. The row starts and ends with 4 dc.

Row 2

Ch 1(acts as first dc), dc in the following  2 dc, *ch 3, dc in ch-5 space, ch 3, skip 1 dc, dc  in the following 3 dc. Repeat * to the last stitch. This row  starts and ends with 3 dc.

Row 1 – 2

Row 3

Ch 1 (acts as first dc), dc in next dc, *ch 3, dc in ch-3 space,  dc in dc, dc in next-3 space, ch 3, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, repeat* to the last stitch.This row both starts and ends with 2 dc.

Row 4

Ch 3 (acts as first tr), tr in next dc, ch 2, *1 dc in next ch-3 space, dc in the following 3 dc, dc in next ch-3 space, ch 5. Repeat * but  the last time ch 2, tr In dc and tr in the initial ch 1 from row 3. This row both starts and ends with 2 tr.

Row 3 – 4

Row 5

Ch 1 (acts as first dc), dc in next tr, *ch 3, skip next dc, dc in the following 3 dc, ch 3, dc in ch-5 space. Repeat * but the last time, make dc in dc and in the initial ch 1 from row 4. This row both starts and ends with 2 dc.

 

Row 6

Ch 1 (acts as first dc), dc in next dc, *dc in next ch-3 space, ch 3, skip next dc, dc in dc, ch 3, dc in nex ch-3 space, dc in dc. Repeat* but the last time dc in dc and in the initial ch 1 from row 5.

This row both starts and ends with 3 dc.

 

Row 7

Ch 1 (acts as first dc), dc in The following 2 dc, dc in ch-3 space, *ch 5, dc in next ch-3 space, dc in the following 3 dc, dc in next ch-3 space. Repeat* but the last time dc in ch-3 space, dc in the following 2 dc and in initial ch 1 from row 6!

You now have 12 ch-5 spaces with 5 dc in between. The row starts and ends with 4 dc.

Row 5 – 7

Repeat row 2 -7 until you get the length you want. I made 11 repetitions.

 

Row between patterns:

When you have finished row 7 the last time;

Ch 1 (acts as first dc), dc in next dc and in every dc, 3 dc in every ch-space, except for the first and the last ch-space where you make 2 dc.

You now have 97 dc.

Pattern 2:

Row 1

Ch 5 (acts as tr + ch 2) * skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, skip 1 dc, tr in next dc, ch 3,  skip 3 dc, tr in next dc, ch 2. Repeat * but finish the row with a tr in initial ch 1 from last row.

You now have 12 ch-3 spaces and och 12 groups of tr + ch 2 + dc + ch 2 + tr.

Row 2

Ch 5 (acts as tr + ch 2) dc in ch-3 space, ch 2, *tr in next tr, ch 3, tr in next tr, ch 2 , dc in next ch-3space, ch 2. Repeat *, but finish the row with a tr in initial ch 3 from row 1.

Row 1 – 2

Repeat row 1-2 until  you get the length you want. I made 35 repetitions.

Row between patterns :

Ch 1, dc in tr, 4 dc in ch-3 space, *dc in tr, dc in ch-2 space, dc in dc, dc in ch-2 space, dc in tr, 3 dc in ch-3 space. Repeat * but finish with 4 dc in the last ch-3 space, and dc in initial ch 3 from last row. You now have 99 dc.

Back to pattern 1.

Repeat row 2-7 until you get the length you want. I made 11 repetitions.

Lace edging :

Row 1

Dc round the shawl. On the short sides: dc in the 4 dc, * 3 dc in ch-space, dc i the following 5 dc. Repeat * and finish with dc in the four last dc. Join with a ss in initial dc.

Row 2

Ch 3, (acts as tr + ch 1) *skip dc, tr in next dc, ch 1. Repeat * around, except for the corners where you make tr + ch 2 + tr in the same stitch. Join with a ss in initial ch 2.

Row 3

Ch 1, dc in ch-space, *ch 7, ss through both loops in the 5th ch from hook, ch 6, ss in the same stitch as the previous ss, ch 5, ss in the same stitch as previous ss, ch 1, skip tr, dc in next ch-space, dc in tr, dc in next ch-space. Repeat * around. Join with a ss in dc. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
